END OF YEAR MEETING MINUTES (OCTOBER 26, 2011)

INTRODUCTION:  Vice President, Ann Page, called the meeting to order at 1:45.  Ann informed us that the EGWA dues will remain at $35.00.  She also reminded us that your handicap fee should be paid before April 1, 2012 otherwise your handicap will be removed from the system.  The handicap fee is $30.00 and our Advantage Card does not provide a reduction for this fee.

The first meeting in 2012 will be on March 21st at 10:00 a.m.   Our first day of play will be March 28; however, this day will not count as league play because league play officially begins the first Wednesday of April (April 4, 2012).

Pace of play was discussed and Ann stated that while there have been no complaints and that we have done well this past season, it is important to remember that if your group is struggling, it is best to let the group behind you play through.  Deb Andrew offered to have a handout regarding pace of play at our next meeting.

SWGA:  Deb Andrew reported on behalf of Marlies Empy to say that our first year with SWGA had been a very good year with EWGA ranking in the middle of the pack.  Next year EWGA will host SWGA in September as all clubs will move up a month.

TREASURER’S REPORT:  Sent under separate cover to membership 10-28-11.

SECRETARY’S REPORT:  Susan Darnley discussed and passed out hostess sign-up sheets for the 2012 season.

She also alerted those members who keep their handicap at a different club than Eisenhower that there has been an error in the slope on Eisenhower’s scorecard which would affect their handicap.   Susan passed out to those members who hold a membership at another club the correct slope at Eisenhower.

Susan (who will be the 2012 Tournament Chair) offered some suggestions for the fall tournament in 2012.  Eisenhower has always aerated in September and will do so in September 2012.   In order to avoid playing under aerated conditions, Susan is suggesting that the fall tournament be played in August when, incidentally, it has been played in the past.

Susan also suggested that the Invitational date should be tentatively set for the last Wednesday in May after Memorial Day (May 30, 2012).

Susan distributed awards for the day’s shotgun play.

Susan asked for and received approval of the minutes from the July 6, 2011 mid-year meeting.

TOURNAMENT CHAIR:  Deb Kimball thanked the hostesses for their help in the 2011 season and felt that the hostess process has been a big success.

Deb presented the award to our Club Champion, Deb Andrew; second place to Young Jeffries.  In the B flight first place went to Song Williams and second place to Sally Bennett.  In the C flight first place went to Donna Dalfonzo-Wiggs and second place to Anna Baker.

NEW BUSINESS:  Linda Orff brought up the dwindling number of players in the EGWA and wondered what we might do to recruit new members.  It was mentioned that Kris Reinhert, the general manager at Eisenhower, had offered to pay for recruitment ads in the newspaper.   It was also suggested that we should market our league in the Golf Bulletin.

GENERAL MANAGER REPORT:  Kris Reinhert, the general manager at Eisenhower, outlined next season’s work plan.  Holes 5, 6, and 8 will be worked on to improve drainage.  He is also placing a priority on tee box problems.  He said he could not do all tee boxes, but would probably address 5 or 6 of them.   He felt that the greens are not as bad as they have been in past years, but admitted they still needed work and was aware of the problem.

There was discontent on the part of a number of EWGA members about the current flags and the wish that Eisenhower would go back to the red, white and blue flags of the past.

Kris talked about various clinic programs to be offered which would be geared more to the beginner golfer and his thoughts on the possibility of offering a couple of 9 hole leagues in the evening.

Dovetailing with our earlier discussion of recruitment to EGWA, he was asked if the Eisenhower mass mailings might include information on EGWA to recruit new members and could the EGWA link on the Website be more prominent.

NOMINATIONS CHAIR:  Charmaine Lewis presented the slate for next year’s officers (2012) which was voted on and approved:
